Linear Arrays- A Vocabulary Activity

Linear arrays are visual representations of degrees.
An activity like linear arrays helps students examine
distinctions of  target words.
Here is an example of a linear array activity using words that
describe temperature.

Write the following words on index cards: cold, tepid, hot, freezing and boiling.
The words freezing and boiling are placed opposite from each other in a row in front of the student.
The student will place the remaining words (cold, tepid and hot) in a logical or sensible order inside
the two end words already positioned.
When completed the array will look like this:
freezing          cold          tepid          hot           boiling
Here is another example of a linear array using size words.
minute          small          average          huge          immense
