Jig Words

Jig Words are a great way to practice the 4 basic syllable rules (necessary for decoding multisyllabic words)
This game, created by Billy Reid of Derry Reading Centre and found on Adrian Bruce's website, is easy to print and use. It is recommended that you spend a week or two on each of the rules. Teachers are also encouraged to follow up instruction and practice on the jig words with plenty or reading and spelling activities that link to the skill. Use the jig cards to help you illustrate the phonic rule you are teaching as well as for use in small group and independent practice settings in your classroom.
