The Fabulous Five

The five main components of reading instruction include:
*phonological awareness
*phonics
*vocabulary
*comprehension
*fluency

All reading programs should provide opportunities to work in these five areas daily. It is like a well balanced meal. To be a healthy reader you need all five components just as your body needs foods from all food groups to thrive.
